For absolute beginners as well as students who have had some previous drawing experience. In this class you will develop fundamental skills in seeing objects and drawing them correctly using contour and gesture lines. Topics will include: blocking in, line quality, proportion and perspective. Activities will include demonstrations and structured exercises using still life subjects. This class is a prerequisite to Drawing Fundamentals II: Rendering Lights & Darks and to instructor's winter watercolor classes. Drawing Fundamentals I & II will give you the basics for moving on to painting classes. Class size limited to give you personal attention. Bring a sack lunch each day.

A relaxing workshop in a beautiful mountain valley in the southern Appalachians for......absolute beginners! No experience needed! This course will cover fundamental drawing concepts and techniques in a cheerful and supportive environment. With Marilynn's demonstrations and guidance in drawing simple, everyday objects, students learn about line, shading, proportion, perspective and composition. Students are provided 3 hearty meals a day, cozy accommodations on the Folk School campus and a variety of entertainment throughout the week.

 For students who have taken Drawing Fundamentals I or have had previous drawing experience.  In this class you will develop fundamental skills in rendering three-dimensional forms.  Topics will include: seeing light, middle and dark values, rendering those values accurately, and balancing darks and lights in a composition.  Activities will include demonstrations and structured exercises using still life subjects.  With Drawing Fundamentals I and II,  you will have the basic skills to move on to painting classes.  Class size limited to give you personal attention. Bring a sack lunch each day.

For the traveler, landscape painter, gardener -- anyone who wants to record what they see and experience in a personal watercolor journal. You'll learn 5 skills: to simplify your subjects, to render them quickly in pencil, to enhance your drawings with ink, to add color with watercolor washes, and to incorporate words into each page's design. We will work from real life and your photographs. Activities will include demonstrations, in-class exercises and outdoor excursions, weather permitting. Drawing Fundamentals I & II recommended; all levels welcome. Bring a sack lunch each day.
